Vintage Inspiration: The Sitting Room in Saltburn-by-the-Sea

Following my blog post about whether you all have vintage homes and whether your love for vintage extends past your wardrobes, I have had a lovely email from Becky at The Sitting Room in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, a quirky Tea Room in which almost everything is reclaimed, recycled, donated, pre-loved or gifted!

This unique place is part of the Profile Gallery - if you ever go then please do let us know what the cakes are like!! If you have a business created around all things vintage then please let us know and we may be able to get something online for you!

In the mean time, we hope to see everyone in Manchester on Sunday :o)

Help Save Manchester's Victoria Baths

Did you all know that our vintage fair on Sunday is part of a fund-raising open day for the Victoria Baths?

Our fair runs from 10am-4pm, entry is just £2 and all proceeds from the door go to the preservation and renovation of the baths, which is a cause close to the heart of many locals and one which visitors to the city can appreciate as worthy.

How many of you are from Manchester, and who learnt to swim at these baths? It seems as though just about all of the local schools used these baths for lessons so there are plenty of people out there who took their first dive in one of the old pools.

As always there will be plenty of exciting exhibitors bringing a huge variety of genuine, high-quality vintage products, from clothes, bags, shoes and jewels to gift, home-ware and much more.
Look out for the Yorkshire Tuck Shop selling all of our favourite old sweets, representatives from The Hope House Museum who will be offering the chance to buy some of their costumes, and of course plenty of exhibitors with 1920s-1970s fashion which you can try on in the swimming pool changing booths!

The Victoria Baths are holding an open day on Sunday to show everyone how much progress has been made so far with the rescue operation on the building and give guided tours.

So come along on Sunday 3 July for some vintage fun and to support an excellent cause. For more inside information go to http://www.discovervintage.co.uk/, follow @discovervintage or search on Facebook. If you are coming then please try and let us know here!

Harrogate Fair Photographs - Vintage Homes

Most of the Discover Vintage fans have a passion for vintage fashion, but how many of you extend your love for vintage beyond the wardrobe and into the rest of your home?

There was lots of homeware at our Harrogate fair, including some sensational soft furnishings from Retro Cushions:

I often find that the easiest way to introduce vintage into your home, though, is through the kitchen. That way if your other half doesn't like it or you change your mind, you can put it away or replace it quite easily. Cute little vintage glasses and tea-sets are always popular...

...do you all have vintage-style homes? We'd love to see some photographs of your vintage homes - you can send them to us at discovervintage@gmail.com and we'll display them on our blog to give everyone some inspiration!

Harrogate Fair Photographs - Vintage Fur

A controversial one, but how many of you wear real fur? There was lots of fur available at our Harrogate fair and I saw someone buying, so there is obviously demand. Does it seem more acceptable to buy vintage fur than something made more recently? Are any of you ever tempted but then decide against it because you're worried what people will think?

This is a really interesting one so I hope some of you comment and let us know what you think!

Harrogate Fair Photographs - Vintage Hats

The photographs from our Harrogate Photo fair are finally in - so it's time to get them gradually online to see what you all think of our exhibitors and their vintage goodies.

There were lots of beautiful hats at the fair....

Are any of you big fans of hats? I think it's a bit of a Marmite thing - you either have a "hat head" or you don't! Sometimes you need a fairly small head to get away with a vintage hat as some of them are tiny!

How many of you wear hats often, and who would be brave enough to wear a vintage veiled creation to the supermarket?? Let me know your thoughts!

Harrogate Fair

Our Harrogate Vintage Home and Fashion Fair on Sunday was lovely, thanks to everyone who came either as an exhibitor or a visitor.

I have taken loads of photographs but just need to locate the USB thing that will connect the camera to the computer...sorry! It may have been left behind during the move but I'll get it sent to me ASAP! I can tell you without photographs how AMAZING the Marvellous Tea Company's Chocolate and Guinness cake was. And the brownies. And the Victoria Sponge. Whoops!

Don't forget our Vintage Wedding Fair is happening in Chiswick Town Hall on Sunday!

Will post properly as soon as I have the photographs...
